Corrections Policy

Accurate math and honest sources are the whole point of CostWise Calculator. If something on the site is wrong, we want to know — and we want the fix reflected on the page as fast as possible.

    How to report an error

Email us via the Contact page with:

    • The URL of the calculator or article where you spotted the issue.
    • A short description of what looks wrong — a number, a formula, a source citation, a broken link, or a factual claim.
    • If possible, the value you'd expect and where you got it from.
    • A screenshot if the issue is visual or context-dependent.

    Correction workflow

    1. Acknowledge — we reply within 2–3 business days to confirm we've received the report.
    2. Investigate — we re-check the formula, the cited source, and the default value against the primary dataset.
    3. Correct — if confirmed, we fix the page, update the "Last updated" and "Last reviewed" dates, and update dateModified in the page's structured data.
    4. Notify — if the reporter provided contact details, we reply with a note about what changed.

Substantive corrections (a wrong formula, a wrong federal figure, a fixed calculation bug) are prioritized. Typos and phrasing polish are batched.

    Update history policy

Every calculator page shows a "Last reviewed" and "Last updated" date so readers can see when the content was last verified. When we make a substantive change to a calculator's formula, default values, or cited sources, we bump both dates. Minor visual or typographical edits update only the "Last updated" date.

For decisions with long-term financial impact, always cross-check against the primary source we cite in the calculator's "Sources" block.
